Coffs Harbour Running Festival half-marathon – 4 September 2016
By Sophie Kennedy
The Coffs Harbour Running Festival was held at Coffs Harbour show grounds over the weekend. I had entered the half marathon last year, how ever due to injury I wasn’t able to run in it but, Village Sports were kind enough to roll my entry over for this year.
I hadn’t run the course before and was a little nervous to begin with. Steve Moneghetti was running the half marathon as well, and mentioned to the 151 entrants would be able to say they ran a half marathon with a world champion! He’s still super speedy and finished third overall and in 1 hour 15 minutes!
The course was 2 laps from the Showgrounds though the botanical gardens and along the creek. It was much hillier than expected and much tougher! I managed to keep an average of 5:02 min/km and finish 49th across the line and 2nd in my category with a time of 1 hour 46 mins and 9 seconds.
It’s a great event which is well run and has a great community vibe. I love these smaller events as you are supporting the local community. I’d encourage anyone to do it!
