What a fantastic day Saturday 13th of Feb 2016 was for the Green Army – with 55 Participants attending our Mooloolaba Tri Training Camp. Facilitated by Coach Drew Standish from Standing Start Triathlon with guest Pro Ashleigh Gentle taking time out from her preparation for the ITU World Triathlon Series to run the group through its paces.
The day started with a bunch warm up ride to Kawana, where Ash and Drew took the team through transition and bike mount and dismount drills.
A 16 km interval time trial set was followed by a 5kmish run off the bike before repeating the time trial set, this time with a cracking head win to make it more fun!
A cool down (not really needed thanks to the rain!) ride back to Mooloolaba Surf Club followed. Before a lap of the Mooloolaba Tri run course. Heavy rain started during the run briefing by Ash and Drew but didn’t dampen spirits before setting out over the run course. Ash shared some tips on running that she is working on, before the traditional King and Queen of the Hill time trial up Alex Headland.
Back to Mooloolaba Surf club for some entry and exit swim training and body surfing, excellently captured for posterity by our own Josh Campbell. Check out the video here.
The day was capped with a group lunch at Mooloolaba Bowls Club followed by a Q&A with Ash MC’s by Drew. Ash shared with the group every thing from race prep and nutrition tips through to her favourite race on the World Circuit.
One of the great things about the day was seeing long standing members who can’t regularly make mid-week sessions coming along and mixing with some of our newest members.
In addition to Ash and Drew, a big thanks goes to Sara Wodyk for organising the lunch venue and catering, and driving people’s bags around amongst many other things she did. And thanks to the other volunteers who setup tents, did time keeping and watched gear including Robin, Josh, Mel, Robyn, Emma and Simone – thanks team.

I’m off to bed now, quite literally can’t keep my eyes open. I love that you organised the weather to help us work on our mental toughness as well. Good call guys! [/blockquote]
