Committee
Jun 29,2010
The club is spoiled to have a whopping 9 committee members in our inaugural year of existence.
Drew Standish – President
Drew only got into Triathlons after sustaining a severe break to his collar bone in June last year playing Aussie Rules. After doing his first Triathlon in October he quickly became obsessed with the sport.
With so much technical and professional expertise within the committee and the club, Drew sees the role of President as the “go between” for all of the exceptional opportunities at the clubs disposal.
Luke Stafford – Swim Coach
Luke Stafford is currently an Athlete Career & Education Advisor at the Queensland Academy of Sport and is the Swim Coach of the QAS Women’s Water Polo squad.
Whilst humble about his contribution , Luke played an integral part in coaching 5 players to Olympic bronze in Beijing and 5 to the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
Luke is the current Head Coach of the Somerville House Andrews Cup Swim Team and also the River City Masters Swim Club. Over the last few years Luke has been involved as a Coach or Manager on various Queensland swim teams.
Luke was also an elite level Swimmer himself, making finals at national and world cup events and winning numerous state titles in QLD and SA.
Kristy Harnett – Secretary
Last year Kristy completed her first half ironman at the Gold Coast and hobbled around for the fortnight afterwards, she swore that was the end of triathlons for her.
After the memory of that pain faded over the months, and her next goal is Ironman WA, in December this year.
Whilst not worried about the swim, Kristy is a bit concerned about the bike and terrified about the run (or in my case, shuffle)! However, with the 2XU squad helping her out, her new SBTC colours, and all the SBTC members who are competing with her, she’s sure the day will be something to remember forever – and if not – well.. the after party in the Margaret River will be!
Josh Santacaterina – Raceday Set-up + Results
Josh is one of Australia’s most successful long distances swimmers.
Josh represented Australia in World Championships + Open Water Worlds 7 times. Josh’s highlight was without doubt his gold medal performance in the 25km in 2006.
Only competing in his first olympic distance tri at Mooloolaba this year, Josh finished in the top 250 and not surprisingly had a top 10 swim leg!
Tiffany Sheerin – Social Events
Following the birth of her two children, Tiffany felt she lacked the energy to tackle life’s little challenges.
One evening, Tiffany went to her wardrobe in search of something to wear to a dinner event only to find that the dress she had bought only a few months earlier didn’t fit.
A frantic search through her wardrobe revealed she could no longer squeeze in to any of her evening outfits. She decided to get her health on track and hired a personal trainer.
Fast forward to 2010 and Tiffany has done what most of us only dream of – turning her passion into a profession. She is now a fully qualified Personal Trainer who regularly competes in triathlons. Tiffany enjoys working with her clients to fulfil their own health and fitness goals. She knows first hand, how liberating a healthy body can be.
Chris Weier – Running + Conditioning Coach
Chris is the clubs fitness machine!
Chris was training for Swimming and one of his friends entered a triathlon (The BP Series at Cable Ski World). He conned Chris into doing it. Chris didn’t do any bike and run training for it, and consequently he had a great swim leg and was very ordinary in the bike and run.
From that day Chris was hooked on Triathlons and has been ever since.
Another who is humble in his achievements, Chris has represented Australia at Age levels 4 times.
Trudee Stafford – Merchandise + Club Photos
Whilst Trudee’s forte may not be Tri’s (even though she would come out of the swim a mile in front) she is certainly exceptional at getting along to support her husband Luke and the rest of the team!
Incredibly humble in her achievements Trudee was on the Australian Swim team from 1999 to 2007 as one of our best Open Water Swimmers. Competing in events from 1km – 25km, Trudee placed 5th at the 2005 and 2006 World Championships in the 10km event along with the incredible 1st place at the 2005 World Championships in the 25km Teams event with SBTC’s fellow club + committee member Josh Santacaterina and Brendan Capell.
Chris Dale
Chris started out in this sport when he was living in Townsville and my parents bought a house outside of town. They only had 1 car at the time so a lot of Chris’ commuting to and from school or a friends place on the weekend was by bicycle. It was not to long before Chris found himself competing in a few local bike races and team triathlon events.
18 years later he is still riding and added swimming and running into the daily routine. With 3 Ironman events and a number of Half Ironman and Olympic triathlons. Chris thoroughly enjoys the training and social aspect of the triathlon scene. Of late, a few of his mates have picked up the sport and Chris loves giving them a hand starting their training routines and racing plans. Chris finds it funny now because they never understood why he got up before the sun most mornings to do what they are doing it themselves.
