Luke Stafford: Swimming Coach
Luke Stafford is currently an Athlete Career & Education Advisor at the Queensland Academy of Sport and is the Swim Coach of the QAS Women’s Water Polo squad. Whilst humble about his contribution , Luke played an integral part in coaching 5 players to Olympic bronze in Beijing and 5 to the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
Luke is the current Head Coach of the Somerville House Andrews Cup Swim Team and also the River City Masters Swim Club. Over the last few years Luke has been involved as a Coach or Manager on various Queensland swim teams. He was also an elite level Swimmer himself, making finals at national and world cup events and winning numerous state titles in QLD and SA.
James Mansfield: Novice/Beginner Cycling Coach
James started racing bikes when he was 12 and has been riding competitively at an elite level since he was 15. For the better part of the last 2 seasons he has been riding for the Fusion Cycles Cycling Team where they have scored number of results in the Queensland and NSW racing calendar.
As a coach for beginners, it’s not about speed, efforts, heart-rate levels or power output. It’s about teaching people new to cycling, the skills and know-how, to make their time on the bike fun and safe in a social environment.
These sessions are just for people starting out or are looking to improve their confidence on the bike. If this sounds like you then be sure to read the information
Some of the key skills we will cover:
- Gear selection and pedalling technique
- Correct braking techniques and hand-positions on the bars
- Body positioning
- Bike setup
- How to ride comfortably in a bunch/bunch etiquette
- Traffic awareness and safe road usage
Group Sessions will be starting in July!
Where: Leaving Fitnance
When: Fridays at 6 a.m.
What you will need:
- your bike,
- kit (helmet),
- lights
Chris Weier: Running + Conditioning Coach
Chris has 20 years of experience in the Fitness Industry. His interest in sports performance began through his passion for Triathlon.
He completed a Fitness Course and worked as a Personal Trainer while he went on to complete a Bachelor in Human Movement Studies at the University of Queensland. Chris has experience working with the FOGS, Ipswich Jets Rugby League Club, International level individual and Team atheltes, and the Qld Government as a lecturer in the Locker Room Forums, providing information to coaches and other community members involved in sport. Chris has represented Australia on 4 occasions for Triathlon.
