Flicka on the road to something special!

Jan 28,2011

Hey Girls & Guy’s ,

As the Southbank Tri club Ambassador I thought  I’d give you a brief update of how things are going and whats coming up for 2011 for me on the Pro circut.

Well while most of you are full on into your race season I’ve been steadily building back up to some kind of fitness after my hip op in October . It’s been a frustrating time to sit back and heal as my fellow competitors are well into their summer base training . So now I’ve been back running for 3 weeks . The expert hip ‘Physios’ advice in the condition I was in ,was to start off by 1 min jog then  4 mins walk for a total of 30 min every 2nd day for a week . Then I was able to up it 2 mins jog 3min walk for 30 mins the next week  and so on .  To put it quite simply I walked out of that physio session thinking  ” Forget that! It will take me all flippin year! ”  I was already a good 3 or so months fitness behind to where I should be this time of year and this year is Olympic selection and very important .

Anyway I headed out for my first run or jog . Now after a good 10 weeks of no impact like run you could say this was a bit of a shock to the system.  I normally average a 75 + km run week on top of cycling and swimming so It felt very weird to say the least . I jogged 1 min and then knew I couldn’t rush it building back up …. But I still did . I bummed around with the 5 min jog walk blocks for 2 or 3 times and yes I pulled up sore but now Panadol rapid and Naprosyn are my best friends  . The next week I definitely went against all orders . From a straight 15mins up to a straight 1hr by the weekend . I’ve now been sitting on that for the past 2 weeks as well as run’s off the bike already . Nothing fast yet . Just getting all my muscles working again . The last 3 weeks I’ve never been soo sore ever . Every morning I wake up and something different is sore haha .  But as they say , or as I tell myself  ’No Pain , No Gain ‘  !  God knows what I’d do with out 2XU compression and 2 or 3 i cool ice baths a day right now .

So when do I start to race again ? Well that all depends on what my new coach says after my next training camp . I’m now part of a Pro Team called Team TBB ( www.teamtbb.com ) . I’ll head off to Thailand end of Feburary for a camp ,and If the Boss is happy I could be on the start line for Sydney World Champs race in April  . Otherwise it will be the rest of the ITU World Champs Series throughout he year with the key races being Hamburg , London & Beijing . Possible some 70.3 races along way too which I’m excited about . Untill then I’m in good old Brisvegas training away so might very well see you out and about and possible join in here and there if I can . I’ll also try use the forum more :)

So happy training everyone , stay well and best of luck in all your racing . SBTC Represent!

Peace Out

Flicka!

Wanaka waits for no “iron-man”

Jan 14,2011

by SBTC Team @ 4:56 pm

Given this week’s tragedy it is easy to overlook the Ironman that is set to take place on NZ’s South Island. However, we have two of our club members who are all set to take on the mammoth effort.

Described by athletes as one of the best events on the international circuit, Challenge Wanaka’s terrain, remoteness and honesty of the course makes it one of the most memorable. The physical and mental challenges will push athletes to their limits but the enthusiasm and warm welcome of the local supporters is second to none with the resulting atmosphere getting even the most tired competitor across the line.

Unlike recent Brisbane conditions, the weather in Lake Wanaka in January is stunning, and an average day is 26-28 C with clear blue skies and very little wind. It is however an alpine environment so athletes must be prepared for all eventualities.

We are excited to learn of how Eddie Fardell and Jason Nooning tackle this massive challenge!

Robina postponed so lend a helping hand

Jan 13,2011

by SBTC Team @ 5:31 pm

SBTC are combining our club power to volunteer on mass. If you are free across Fri, Sat and or Sunday let us know!

Volunteering Qld has so many offers their website had shutdown at one point. They have since advising all to help fam and friends! So the plan is to learn of our friends in need, be they club members or not and we will go house to house from Friday morning.

Please contact Drew with houses/businesses in need of help! This is not the time to be proud, but proud to be part of a club that have a heap of people wanting to help and fortunate to have the ability to assist those not as lucky.

Our first task already sorted. Immediately following swim squad tomorrow 7am (if on) one of our squad members had her house evacuated at West End and her stuff moved to another members house. People power needed to move the stuff back. :-)

Gatorade Queensland Tri Series Robina – POSTPONED

Due to the unprecedented flooding crises being experienced in South East Queensland and Northern NSW regions and the subsequent hardship this has inflicted upon those affected which includes many of the stakeholders of the Gatorade Queensland Tri Series, USM EVENTS has decided to postpone the event.

After lengthy discussions and consultation with Police, Emergency Services, Gold Coast City Council and our stakeholders we are proposing to move the event to next weekend. We have now lodged all appropriate paperwork with authorities and pending their approvals the event will proceed as planned for 22/23 January 2011
