Soaking up our first six-months as a club!
Dec 25,2010
It’s crazy to think that SBTC only got going officially from 1st July 2010. With humble aspirations, we have been spoiled with overwhelming support, incredible membership take up, but above all, fantastic people who are and will be the very backbone of the club.
We are so adamant that we want this club to be everything its members want it to be. We seek to provide a number of options, both on the training side as well as the social side. We seem to have the training well underway. The next challenge for us is to capitalize our energy on race days with a real social presence and party atmosphere. So stay tuned as we try to rally up troops for upcoming events!
For those that are yet to sign up, don’t waste your chance to talk with elite experts on of Members only forum. Felicity Abram has been kind enough to offer advice from an elite perspective on triathlons. Luke and Paul offer Swim advice. Fusion Cycles answer all your cycling questions. And Weiery helps out by answering all your running needs. Its free to join once you are a member. You would be mad to not get this quality advice free of charge!!! See our website on how to join.
This leads us into our next BIG thanks. Our sponsors have been beyond Brilliant. And without our 5 major sponsors we doubt our club would have the credibility it has so quickly.
Flick, Lou and Bill from 2XU Brisbane Performance Centre have been a massive support for us. Upfront costs of our race suits, giving away free travel bags with suit purchases and hosting and Catering for V.I.P. nights are a massive support. The swell in numbers for the running sessions has been great to experience and we are all excited for continuing to grow these into 2011.
Matt, Chelsie and the wider Fusion Cycles team are clearly experts in their field. SBTC considers itself an attractive club for the beginner to Triathlon’s and this means a number of people need bikes and have NO IDEA what bike to get. We continue to get great feedback about the care and detail both Matt and Craig go into when introducing people to the world of cycling. Not to mention, working within people’s budgets … a key area of concern in this very very expensive sport!
Aaron and the guys at Somerville House continue to roll out the red carpet. Its great to have a base camp for training sessions, and even better to allow our guys a venue to shower and get changed even when not swimming. Thank you so much!
Weiery, Tanya and Steve at Fitnance are those people you want to yell at for putting you through pain, but are just too nice! Fitnance has helped out in a big way. With such a busy Tri calendar on at the moment the free SBTC sweat session has had a rest for the past few months. But January we anticipate a big turn out as we all see to shed the festive spoils!
Last but not least, the Melbourne Hotel. On short notice, these guys not only opened their doors, but did so with welcome and financially supportive arms to affiliate with the club. The turn outs to our breakfast post social ride has been unreal. The Melbourne Hotel will also be the venue for our end of year party in July. This is a not to be missed event. As you know .. we at SBTC love a good party!
To wrap things up, I would like one brief opportunity to thank my fellow committee members for helping all of us cope with the overwhelming take up we have had. 2011 will see our club mature in its offer thanks largely to the support our club members have shown by way of merchandise sales we have worked hard to make good quality and affordable prices. This has us in a profitable position at the end of 2010 and financially able to start acquiring key club equipment providing we receiving the ongoing support.
To all we at SBTC wish you a safe and merry festive season. Take care on the roads, particularly if you are planning to get in some riding sessions! Our squads break from 24th and return again on Tuesday 4th January 2011. If you are keen to train in between this time with club members, get on the forum and rally the troops. There are after all, 97 others here with you!
Regards,
Drew Standish On behalf of SBTC inc
